Architects are #4 out of Top 10 Happiest Professionals Posted: 25 Feb 2011 05:06 AM PST In this day and age, our overall working schedule has increased to cover almost half of our days. Trying to keep up with an ever-changing working environment, we tend to work more and more and many of us find a guilty pleasure in working long hours. This is how we become workaholics. But once you love your work, you depend on results and feedback to keep you happy. We recently discovered that the pleasurable career of being an architect is one of the most rewarding jobs in America. Ranking high on the top, architecture is considered to be the fourth most rewarding career choice among Americans, right after clergy, fire fighters and travel agents. The architect’s happiness can be clearly seen in their works: constructing perfectly fitted houses for their clients, overcoming space, design and aesthetics problems and basking in their glory seem to make architects a lot happier than other people. A University of Chicago study, “Job Satisfaction in the United States”, shows exactly how Americans feel about their jobs. Over 53% of architects declare they are happy with their job description and salary. Here’s some insight into an architect’s work-related happiness: “Stephen Moon, an architect with The Beck Group in Atlanta, says an important part of his happiness is due to his employer expanding his experience, and letting him have access to the construction and development sides of the business.” What do you think makes architects so happy and proud of their work? Creative Space Delimitated by Giant Office Supplies Posted: 25 Feb 2011 03:50 AM PST Apparently, creative ideas are not so hard to come by. Creating a space that will not only solve the problem of visually delimitating the space but also creatively inducing the idea of separate office spaces, the bright minds from Radford Wallis graphic design studio managed to draw attention and reach the targeted public. Property developer Land Securities needed to divide a large space situated in London into distinctive office spaces that can be shown to potential tenants. Instead of appealing to the same overused walls and signs, they took the high road and created a very surprising space with the help of giant office supplies carefully placed in key areas. The outcome was inspired by the conditions of the site and the idea that needed to be conveyed into something palpable. The designers from Radford Wallis explain how they came up with the idea: “Shunning conventional signage, we went for maximum impact by creating four scaled-up stationery items, used to mark out the huge space. The giant objects were then positioned where the partitions would eventually be built.”

Dynamic Apartment in Denver Reflecting the Owner’s Passion for Automobiles Posted: 25 Feb 2011 02:36 AM PST This exquisite and highly original looking apartment was developed by Beaton Design and is located in downtown Denver. According to the architects, the loft design derives from the owner’s dynamic character. The challenge was to create a comfortable space that would reflect a strong passion for exotic automobiles in its “lines, form and detailing”. The unusual and diverse walls delimitate the space in six well defined living areas. Glass additions contribute to the overall contemporary feel and aesthetics of the loft. Modern and unexpected forms are at the basis of beautiful apartment design. Throughout this crib, one can observe eccentric decorative items, decadent fabrics and contracts of great visual effects. The living room is spacious and airy, with large windows, a perfect interior for working or socializing. We were particularly intrigued by the design of the entertaining area which can serve as a good source of inspiration.

Cool Accordion Cabinet for Music Nostagics Posted: 24 Feb 2011 07:14 AM PST Miss hearing a traditional and well played accordion tune? Elisa Strozyk in collaboration with artist Sebastian Neeb probably developed this highly original cabinet in the shape of an accordion for the nostalgics. Made entirely out of wood, the uncommon furniture instrument slowly unfolds in order to lock hide the storage unit which it accompanies. Found on Yanko Design, the product could fit nicely in a minimalist and/or traditional interior. Its dimensions (163 x 100 x 43 cm ) are definitely to be considered when planing the decorating elements for a room. With its unique shape, it is surely a furniture piece that stands out. Which is why decorating around it could be somewhat challenging. What do you think of this design and where would you place it? Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below !
